Yes, National Cancer Survivors Day® is a celebration! A worldwide Celebration of Life held on the first Sunday in June. But it is so much more than just a party.
National Cancer Survivors Day® is the one day each year that communities across the globe come together to recognize the cancer survivors in their community, to raise awareness of the ongoing challenges cancer survivors face because of their disease, and – most importantly – to celebrate life. National Cancer Survivors Day® celebrations give cancer survivors an opportunity to share their stories, to connect with other survivors, to celebrate personal milestones, and to acknowledge those who have supported them. NCSD also gives communities a chance to stand alongside these survivors and raise awareness of the ongoing challenges cancer presents.
NCSD celebrations will be as diverse as the cities where the events are being held. From parades and carnivals to health fairs and cancer awareness runs, each community will celebrate in its own unique way. Cancer survivors will share their unique stories of how surviving cancer has affected their lives. And communities will come together to stand with these survivors and make a commitment to help find ways to lessen the burdens a cancer diagnosis brings.

On National Cancer Survivors Day®, we will celebrate life. And we will rejoice in how far we’ve come in cancer survivorship, as cancer survivors are living longer after cancer diagnosis than ever before.
However, despite their growing numbers, cancer survivors often must contend with rapidly rising drug costs, inadequate insurance coverage, difficulty finding or keeping employment, and ongoing physical, psychological, and financial struggles.
So, we will also use this day to draw attention to the challenges cancer survivors still face, and to advocate for more resources, research, and legislation to improve cancer survivors’ quality of life. Because life after cancer is about more than just counting years; it’s about making those years count.
